Paradise at our feet { Dania Beach Photographer } { Florida Keys Landscape Photography}
Sometimes the beautiful beach here in Dania just isn't enough. Sometimes we just gotta get away! So we pack up our stuff several times a year and make the long trip to the Florida Keys. On our last trip, we discovered a new paradise. We stayed at "Banana Bay Resort", located in Marathon. This was our first time here. The price was right, the location was right and the view was right. So far, they have had the nicest pool we have seen, included with a tiki bar.
We made our way down to Key West, ate at the Hard Rock Cafe {Yum! Great burger!}, and then made our way home, an hour north to our hotel. Did some fishing and caught small fishies. The next day we did a snorkel trip aboard the Captain Hook. The trip was amazing. I wish I could have taken my camera with me snorkeling. I have been snorkeling many, many times and this was far the best. We went to two parts of the reef sanctuary, Coffin's Patch. Every reef has a history and why it is called what it is called. You can find the history of this reef here. The reef was full of jellyfish. Yes I was stung several times by the moon jellies. They sting, but it could be worse. The second patch had no jellies :). But the reef was so alive. I have been told that all hard coral in Florida is dead, which just isn't true!!! There were thousands of beautiful tropical fish among many other things such as the Florida spiny lobster, which are yummy and can be found at many restaurant's in the keys, Christmas tree worms, which look like little Christmas tree's, large brain corals, and many other beautiful, colorful things that are just alive. I have never seen so many different living creatures in such a small space. We are very fortunate to be just a mini road trip away from the Florida Keys!
So our trip was coming to an end, which is always a sad day, and we make our way, the only way, back up Route 1. The drive is so beautiful that we don't mind it. Ok so we minded it a bit. (Our a/c stopped working and it was hot!) But our routine is often the same. We stop take pictures, eat fast food, and make our way to John Pennekamp State Park. Here you can camp, take nature walks, rent boats, canoes, take a trip to the park which is actually a reef or just do what we do and snorkel on their beach. It is rocky, dark, and creepy! But my husband loves it. The water is always murky as you snorkel over the endless dark hole of the abyss. Very creepy. I feel like I will be swallowed by the darkness, so I go around this deep dark hole to where the canons and parts of a recreated ship that sank in the 1800's is located. Ok so it is a little cool. If your ever there and think there are sharks coming out of the water, don't worry,it is just tarpon. But it is an experience and everyone should do it.
Well I hope you enjoyed the long, long story of our mini vacation and of course the pictures. Oh and the cute little deer is a key deer. They are all little. You can find these on Big Pine Key. Just drive around the back roads and your sure to find some.
